Carol grew up in Fairfield, Connecticut and attended Andrew Warde High School. She graduated from the University of Michigan and later completed a dual master’s degree program at the U. of Pennsylvania School of Social Work and Wharton School of Business.
Carol had a long career in social services – leading a group home in Michigan, serving as the first Executive Director of the Bath-Brunswick United Way and as Executive Director of the YWCA in Portland. Just prior to retirement she worked for Bath Iron Works in the Training and Development office.
Carol was often described as one of the sweetest people by those who knew her, with a zest for living, good food, good wine and travel. She overcame cancer and managed living daily with pulmonary fibrosis, exuding an inspiring grace and positive, healing spirit for herself and others. In the past few years she had a lot of fun experimenting with bold and bright colors in her hair; her friends and family never knew what she was going to show up with! She loved traveling and was fortunate to see much of the world with her family – from Africa to the Galapagos, from Scotland and England to the West Coast of the U.S. She dearly loved and took particular delight in following the activities and accomplishments of her niece and nephew.
Her love of family and friends knew no bounds, she will be missed by so many whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her brother Marc Goloff and sister-in-law Susan Feiner, niece Sophie, nephew Ben, cousin Laurie Schecter, cousin Julie Schecter and her husband Will Hapgood, and cousin Jon Nowitz and his wife Marie. She was predeceased by her parents and cousin Gary Isaacson. She also leaves behind a legion of friends from all walks of life who will greatly miss her ever-present smile.
Per Carol’s wishes there will not be a memorial service, but rather a gathering of friends, likely in February.
