Carole M Wakem

1934 - 2018

SCARBOROUGH - Carole (Milliken) Wakem, 83, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She was born in Portland on June 27, 1934, the daughter of Edna P. (Murchie) and Harry L. Milliken.

Carole graduated from Deering High School. On June 14, 1953 she married the love of her life, Murray (Burtt) Wakem, and they shared a loving marriage of over 40 years until his passing in 1993. Carole was a member of Eastern Star and a woman that had a deep faith that never waivered. From 1970 to the mid 80's she taught Lamaze classes. Carole was active in volunteering her time at the Peabody House, Right to Life, La Leche and various senior groups in Scarborough. She enjoyed playing the piano, playing games with family, spending time with friends over a cup of coffee, loved her cats, and had an interest in keeping up with technology. Being a mother was the greatest joy in her life.

Carole is survived by her three children, Joy Stanton, Dana Wakem and wife, Brenda, and Tom Wakem and wife, Audrey; her sister, Nancy Critchley Mason; her sister-in-law, Gratia Milliken; her 8 grandchildren, Darcie and husband, Brandon Williams, Colby and Shelby Courtois, Jes Wakem, Tom Jr. and wife, Erynn Wakem, Alexander, Jacob and Katelyn Wakem; her 4 great-grandchildren, Michael, Harley, Aaron and Thomas; her three step-great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jordan and Mason.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her oldest son, Deane; and her brother, Harry.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm at Jones Rich & Barnes Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11am at Jones Rich & Barnes Funeral Home. A committal will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Brooklawn Memorial Park at 2pm.
