Carolyn Creswell Padden, 79, died on March 14, 2024, in South Portland, Maine, after a long illness. She was born on May 10, 1944 and raised in Leicester, Massachusetts, the daughter of George R. and Stella (Soucy) Creswell. She attended Leicester High School, Clark University, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she received a Masters degree in Microbiology. She worked as a research microbiologist, for most of her career at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. After retiring, she moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Throughout her young life, Carolyn enjoyed skiing and camping vacations with her family. She loved animals and was always devoted to her pets (dogs and cats). She was also a lifelong gardener. In her later years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and participated in dance groups in both Massachusetts and Virginia. Carolyn was also a prolific knitter and taught herself how to quilt, and she has left the family with many wonderful quilts to remember her by for generations to come.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Patrick Padden, formerly Police Chief of Leicester, Mass. She is survived by two brothers: George R. Creswell, Jr., of Marlborough, Mass. and Thomas P. Creswell of Winooski, Vermont. She is also survived by her nephew, Randy Creswell and his wife Gwen, and two nieces, Lisa (Creswell) Bolduc and her husband David of Marlborough, Mass., and Kelly (Creswell) Sullivan and her husband Michael of Attleboro, Mass, as well as several great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Leicester later in the spring.
