Catherine K. Chenery

Catherine King Chenery passed away peacefully on Friday August 19, 2011. The daughter of Delia (Davis) King and Michael King, she was born in Portland on February 9, 1914. A graduate of Portland High School Class of 1932, Catherine spent her early years in Portland. In 1951 she married Elliott Chenery and they lived for several years in Plainfield, New Jersey where their two sons, Robert and Peter, were born. In 1960 they moved to Dallas, Texas, and she lived there until January of 2000. While in Texas Catherine was employed by the YMCA of Downtown Dallas. While there she started the annual “Turkey Trot”. With her hard work and under her guidance, it was a successful fundraiser for the YMCA for many years. She returned to Portland in January of 2000 to be near her niece Catherine Francoeur.

Catherine was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her son Peter, her nephew Hilary King and her siblings Mary, Ann, John, Michael, and William King.

She is survived by her son Robert of Portland; her niece and her niece’s husband, Catherine and Michel Francoeur of Portland; her cousin Sister Catherine Green of Portland; her nephews Stanley King of Amherst, NH; Michael King of Rollinsford, NH; Thomas and Terrance King of South Bend, IN; and Ann King of Peabody, MA.

A private service will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home.
