Clifford W. Doughty Jr., age 88, died with his family by his side in Portland, Maine on December 26, 2017 . He was born on March 5th 1929 in Yarmouth Maine the son of the late Clifford Doughty and the late Florence Oliver Burnell . He was a lifelong Mainer, Carpenter and former Marine. He worked for Rice management for many years and was a jack of all trades. Clifford enjoyed card games, Westerns, old TV shows, sweets, and most of all his family. He worked hard to make sure they were provided for and always had a story or a song for anyone who would listen. He especially loved singing to his grandchildren. You can’t go far in Portland without seeing a home that Clifford did some kind of work on at one point in time. He was a hard working man with a one of a kind personality who will be missed by many. He was not only a loving father of 7 children but a wonderful Papa, brother, uncle and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Joan Taylor Doughty; daughters Sheila Arey-Godin and Rhoda Doughty as well as his son Clifford W. Doughty III.
He is survived by his daughters, Wanda Coombs and her husband Lawrence of Falmouth, Betty Walls and her husband Gordon of Gorham, his son Phillip Doughty and his wife Rebecca of Topsham, and his daughter Melinda Brown of South Portland. He is also survived by siblings Neil Tame of Standish, Clayton Tame of Fort Wayne, IN, Phillip Tame of Gray, Nancy Pratt of North Monmouth, as well as Janice Brackett of Freeport. He had several nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, January 5th from 4-7pm at Jones-Rich-Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street in Portland, Maine. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 6th at 11:00AM in the funeral home with a reception to follow . Interment will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park on Monday, January 8th at 11AM.
