It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Clifford Hatch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Clifford passed on March 15, 2026, at the age of 84, at Maine Medical Center from complications related to pneumonia.
Born on March 3, 1942, in Portland, ME, Clifford was the cherished son of Lawrence and Eva Hatch. Clifford was a man who wore many hats throughout his lifetime, each with distinction and devotion. A proud graduate of Deering High School in 1960, he furthered his education at the University of Southern Maine, graduating in 1964. His sense of duty extended beyond education as he served with honor as a Sergeant in the Maine Army National Guard for six years. In July 1964, Clifford married the love of his life, Nancy Ames, beginning a beautiful journey together that would span an incredible 61 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful sons, Scott and Todd, who in turn gifted them five beautiful grandchildren: Payton, Cady, Hadley, Connor, and Carter. Clifford treasured his family above all else and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. Professionally, Clifford dedicated 24 years to the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors as a District Sales Manager, where he was known for his integrity and work ethic. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase and run the Old Port Sandwich Shop, affectionately known as "Cliff's Place," for 16 years. After selling the sandwich shop he wanted to keep busy and worked for the Town of Scarborough as a custodian, first in the Town Hall and later with the police department, until retiring in 2024. Clifford's life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, kindness, and dedication.
His legacy is carried forward by his loving wife, Nancy Hatch, his sons Scott (and wife Diana) of Gorham and Todd of Yarmouth (and partner Jen Marsh) of Cumberland, his cherished grandchildren, and his sisters Carolyn Boyd of Kennebunkport, ME, and Cynthia Huff of Winthrop, MA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jim Ames of Windham, ME, as well as wonderful nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including Donna McGreevy.
A Celebration of Clifford's life will be held on Friday March 27, 2026, with a Time of Visitation from 10 AM -12 PM followed by a Memorial Service 12 PM-1 PM at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St, Portland. Burial at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, an organization Clifford supported passionately.
