Delia Marie (Dyer) Balzano

Portland, ME – Delia Marie (Dyer) Balzano, 89, of Scarborough died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Maine Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph Balzano who died on July 16, 1984.

Delia was born on February 22, 1921 at her home in Westbrook, ME. She was a daughter of the late William E. & Cilinire (Labbe) Dyer Sr. She attended local area schools and graduated from Westbrook High School.

Delia was a true matriarch. She lovingly raised her four children and greatly enjoyed her extended family. She was also an avid reader and an artist. Delia learned to paint at the age of seventy and then learned how to operate a computer at eighty. She also loved to knit and crochet.

She is survived and will be missed by her four children Fae MacDonald and her husband Steven of Rockland; Gerry Balzano and his wife Lynn of Bedford, NH; Judy Balzano and her husband Petter Gammo of Old Orchard Beach and Michael Balzano of Scarborough. She also leaves nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren as well as her brother William E. Dyer Jr. of Gorham and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late George Frederick Dyer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 5 – 9 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.

Prayers will be recited Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home to be followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 673 Stevens Ave, Portland with Rev. Don Bosco Duquette, O.F.M., Cap. celebrating.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, ME.
