Diane Marie Landry 71 of Westbrook passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025 with family and close friends by her side. Diane was a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding positivity during her battle with cancer.
Born on July 28, 1953 in Portland, Me to Mary Ellen Adams (Dick) and Franklin George Dick. Diane was known for her warmth, generosity, and undeniable loving spirit that she brought into the world.
She was a graduate of Portland High School’s class of 1971. After graduating Diane received her nursing certificate from the Osteopathic Hospital, began a career and married the love of her life, James E Landry. Together they shared a loving marriage until his time of death in 2006.
Among Diane’s most significant accomplishments was raising her daughter Laura, becoming a grandmother to Shyla, and great grandmother to Ava, Alycianna, Autumn, and Paisley, all of whom she held as her pride and joy.
She worked for many years caring for the elderly in nursing homes and assisted care facilities. Diane always served with a loving heart. She went above and beyond to show compassion and empathy for each patient treating each one as though they were her own family. She would occasionally stop by to visit even on a day off.
Diane began a second career as a lab tech for Abbott Laboratories. Working there for 25+ years until her retirement in 2021. She had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was kind, loving, and welcomed everyone with a smile.
Even amidst the challenges life brough her way Diane never wavered in her compassion for others. She continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Even when sick or in pain she never faltered in caring for her loved ones more than she did herself.
Her life served as a testament to her philosophy “you can be a survivor or you can be a victim.” She was fiercely independent and rarely asked for help. She felt most comfortable in the role of caregiver. Diane or DiDi as many called her gave the best hugs, and was quick to greet anyone with a friendly smile and welcoming “Well Hi! Hello there!” She was a light enjoying gatherings with family, friends and neighbors at her residence in Westbrook. Where she once held the title of Wii Champion in bowling! She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and a congregate of St. Anthony's of Padua Parish. She found peace attending service and praying the rosary daily.
