Donald W. Harford, Sr., 86 of Falmouth, passed away April 14, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born in Portsmouth, N.H. May 20, 1929 a son of the late Austin and Ruth (Allen) Harford. He attended schools in Washington, D.C. and Portsmouth, N.H. prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he attended Simmons School of Design in Boston, MA.
Donald married Marilyn Gorham in 1950. He was employed for several years with National Biscuit Co. In 1965 Donald and Marilyn purchased Vose -Smith Florist and in later years also owned an antique shop, retiring in 1992. He continued to exhibit, selling antiques throughout the Northeast. Don was involved in many various civic and business organizations. He was a member and past president of the Portland Lions Club, member of the Maine State Florist Association, member of the Maine Antiques Dealers Association, and a member of the Venerable Cunner and Propeller Club. Don gave generously of himself to his family and friends and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and trying to make people smile.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (Gorham) Harford of Falmouth, 1 son, Donald W. Harford, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Westbrook and their children and several grandchildren, 1 daughter, Susan H. Demski of Venice, FL. and grandchildren, Nicholas O. Demski and his fiancé, Ashley Holland of Palm Harbor, FL. and Elizabeth D. Tomlinson and her husband, Duane of Bonita Spring, FL. , 2 sisters, Judith Holley and her husband, Melvin, Rochelle Brunson and her husband, Joseph both of Baker, FL., 1 brother, Robert Harford and his wife, Jean of San Bernardino, CA., a sister-in-law, Irene Harford of Portland, ME. and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Richard Harford and John A. Harford, Sr. and a nephew, John C. Harford C. Harford, Jr.
