Doris Marie McDonald

Portland, Maine-Doris Marie (Hicks) McDonald, 55, PORTLAND- Doris Marie (Hicks) McDonald, 55, of Portland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Maine Medical Center after battling an aggressive illness.

Doris was born on March 8, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Daniel and Joan Hicks. She moved to Portland, Maine with her brother in her late teens and made it her home; however, she always stayed a Jersey girl. Doris worked at Maine Medical Center cumulatively for thirty years. She was known for being an extremely hard worker and helping others in need. She made friends wherever she went and would give the shirt off of her back to anyone. Doris was affectionately called “Nana Doris” by the neighborhood kids and friends of her grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

Doris was predeceased by her parents and her brother Stephen Hartkopf. She is survived by her daughter Kayla Trynor and her forever step-children Audra Fitzsimmons and AJ McDonald. She is survived by her siblings: Daniel Hicks, Michael Hicks, Rita Kofskey and her husband Bill, Albert Hicks, Joseph Hicks, Kelly Hicks, Patty Hicks and her husband Bobby Sanchez, and William Hicks, all of New Jersey. Doris is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. In her late teens, Doris was taken in by the McDonald family with loving and open arms. They were a significant part of her life and will forever be her family.

Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home on 199 Woodford St. in Portland. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM following visitation hours. Interment will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine.
