

WESTBROOK – Dwight Irving Gailey, 69, passed away unexpectedly June 6, 2017, at his home in Westbrook, Maine. He was born at the Maine Medical Center, in Portland, November 5, 1947, the son of John and Violet Gailey. Losing his father at a young age, he was given great responsibilities to care for his widowed mother and disabled brother. Taking a job at the Portland Press Herald, delivering newspapers and working his way into production, he was under the supervision of his uncle, Frank Herrick, who he looked to like a father. Dwight attended Deering High School, graduating in 1966. After high school, Dwight enlisted in the Army for a short time during the Vietnam War, making him a Veteran with an honorable discharge. Soon after serving, Dwight graduated from Southern Maine Community College, formerly SMVTI, majoring in Business. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna Coles, spending 40 loving years of marriage together. Dwight accepted management at the Maine Mall at a very young age and continued his journey in management for over 20 years. After leaving the mall to spend more time with family, his greatness continued with a position at the City of Portland Inspections and Housing Departments, from which he recently retired after 30 years. Dwight was a loyal member of the Eagles-Casco Aerie #565, The Elks, Post #188 and The Masons Lodge #0086. Some of Dwight's most treasured past times included, but not limited to: travel, cooking, baking, entertaining, landscaping, music and movies. He spent most of his time with his grandkids, playing at the local park, feeding the ducks, watching them swim in his pool, taking them on travel adventures or scoping out the great deals at Goodwill. In addition to both of his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Gailey and his wife, Donna Gailey. The family that will keep his love alive are as follows: His daughters, Jody Gailey and Katrina (Gailey) Sawyer, her husband David Sawyer and their children, his grandchildren, Shyla and Jake. He will be very missed by many.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 11-1:00 P.M., with a service starting at 1:00 P.M. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME 04103.
