

Portland- Ezra Carter Milliken, 88, formerly of Falmouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 12, 2011. The son of Alfred H. Sr. and Grace (Selma) Milliken, he was born in Scarborough ME on February 26, 1923. After serving in the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II, he returned to Maine and went to the University of Maine. After college in 1947, he joined his father and his two brothers, Alfred and Wendell to form Milliken Brothers, an electrical contracting business. He retired from the family business in 1991. During his life, Carter enjoyed fishing and golfing, and went on many trips for both. He was always happy to be with his family, especially the many summers spent at his camp in Rangeley. After the sale of the camp he spent many winters in Florida with his wife Dot. Carter also enjoyed singing with his brothers and sisters at family gatherings. He was a past member of the Woodfords Club, the Portland Country Club, and the Rangeley Country Club. He was predeceased by four brothers, Sewall, Gerald, Wendell, and Roland, and a sister Ruth Dearborn. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy Milliken, his five children Meredith (Milliken) Mayberry, Brian Milliken, and his wife Patsy, Joyce Milliken and her husband Michael Paulin, Jeffrey Milliken and his wife Susan, and Dean Milliken. A brother Alfred, and four sisters Eunice Hurd, Laura Lewis, Selma Wilbur, and Louisa Blake. Grandchildren, Wesley Milliken, Kyle Milliken, Caleb Milliken, Alex Nickerson, Seth Mayberry, Elizabeth Mayberry, Jason Milliken, and Carter Milliken. The family would like to thank the staff at The Cedars and Hospice of Southern Maine for their loving care of Carter. Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Monday July 18, from 5:00- 7:00 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street Portland. Services will be private.
