
Portland- Elizabeth Geraldine (Horr) Drake, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in the loving care of her son, daughter and several wonderful caregiver friends and companions on October 30, 2016. She had made her home with her son Boyd for many years following the passing of her husband in 1973.
“Betty” was born on Long Island, ME on May 24, 1916. She was the daughter of Willam Everett Horr and Elizabeth Calder.She attended schools on Long Island and graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1933.
Elizabeth was the widow of Boyd E. Drake, a retired Captain of the Portland Fire Department. The couple met and dated on Long Island, ME when she was in school. They were married by Clergyman W.H. Stewert at his home in Gorham, ME, on June 11, 1935. Elizabeth and Boyd made their home in the Portland area, raising their family there. They spent summers on Long Island at the family cottage enjoying boating, fishing and picnics at the beach.
Elizabeth was employed at Healthtex; retiring as a supervisor in 1976 after 23 years. She was an active member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 97 Allen Ave. in Portland for many years.
She is survived by her son Boyd Herbert Drake, her daughter Linda Jean Miller and son-in-law David L. Miller of Lexington, ME; four grandchildren, Carrie Schlup of Smithfield, NC; Laura Miller of North Anson, ME, Edward Miller of Oakland, ME, and Chad Miller of Hanover, CT; ten great grandchildren, Krystyn Eldridge, Kinsey Johnson, Brooke Herrick, Kyra and Cody Miller, Meagan and Ryan Miller, Ian, Andrew and Kelly Schulp, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her three siblings Shirley Lalumiere of Falmouth, William Horr of Long Issland, and Sheila Reid of Fort White, FL.
Calling hours and service for Elizabeth will take place Friday, November 4, 2016 from 12-1:00 pm with Church services starting at 1pm at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 97 Allen Ave Portland, ME. Services will be lead by Pastor Donna Holland, and interment will be immediately following service at Evergreen Cemetery 672 Stevens Ave. Portland, ME.
Following services at Evergreen, the family would like to invite friends and family of Elizabeth back to the church for a reception and continued fellowship.
