Eva (Romano) DiRenzo

Freeport, ME – Eva (Romano) DiRenzo, 99, formerly of Portland died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Hawthorne House in Freeport. She was the wife of the late Aaron A. DiRenzo who died in April of 1995.

Eva was born on February 13, 1911 in Portland, ME a daughter of the late John & Concetta (Longo) Romano. She grew up in Cetraro, Calabria, Italy attending the area schools before returning back to Portland at the age of nineteen.

Eva worked briefly in a local textile mill before meeting and marrying her husband Aaron in 1937. She and her husband went on to raise three children.

Eva loved cooking for her family, if someone needed a meal, they need not look any further than Eva. Her specialties included spaghetti and meatballs and her friend zucchini blossoms, made from her home grown zucchini’s. Her pride and joy was her garden, where she grew everything from flowers to vegetables. She worked in her garden into her 90’s always looking forward to spring.

She is survived by her three children Janice Colello and her husband Michael of Portland; Anthony DiRenzo and his wife Linda of The Villages, FL and Theodore DiRenzo and his partner Lynne Fecteau of Scarborough. She also leaves her two grandchildren Paula McGee and her husband Mark of Lutz, FL and Michael P. Colello of Portland and her two great grandchildren Grace and Jack McGee as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.

Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, ME.
