Evelyn M LaBerge

Portland-Evelyn May LaBerge, 95, passed away with her husband by her side on Monday June 11, 2012 at Seaside Nursing Home. The daughter of Maxwell and Katherine (Smith) Zemla she was born in Portland Maine on September 30, 1916. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School class of 1936. After high school she worked in retail at several local department stores finally retiring from Maine National Bank. She married Ernest LaBerge in June of 1952. She was a member of the Elks Emblem Club, a life member of the Veteran’s of Foreign War Auxiliary Club, and a member of the former Payson Park Evangelical Free Church. She was predeceased by three brothers, her daughter Phyllis McGarvey, a granddaughter Kristeen McGarvey and a great-granddaughter Caroline Colson. She is survived by her husband Ernie of 60 years, her son-in-law Wayne McGarvey of Portland, a grandson Keane McGarvey and his wife Kelly of Portland, two granddaughters Kathleen Megathlin of Cumberland, and Kerry Colson and her husband Jon of Portland, three grandsons Reid Megathlin, Braden Megathlin, and Shamus Colson, and four granddaughters Elizabeth McGarvey, Hannah Megathlin, Kaitlin Megathlin, and Charlotte Colson, a step-daughter Phyllis Dorr and her husband Rod of Claremont New Hampshire, step-grandchildren April Livermore and Rodney Dorr Jr., step-great-grandchildren Monica and Danielle, and two sisters Alice Lewis, and Frances Swasey. A graveside service will be held on Thursday June 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St. Portland. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland.
