

PORTLAND -- Evelyn K. Tarpinian, 89, formerly of Bartley Avenue, died on Thursday at The Cedars. She was born in Portland, the daughter of Leon and Rose Serunian Hekimian, attended local schools, graduating from Portland High School in 1940.
Mrs. Tarpinian was a member of the Portland Museum of Art, the Portland Historical Society, the Foxy Ladies Bowling League and the Italian Heritage Club. She served on the Portland High School Reunion Committee, volunteered for 22 years at the Maine Medical Center and volunteered for many other various organizations. She was a former communicant of The Cathedral of St. Luke.
Her husband, Carleton J. Tarpinian died in 1987. She is survived by two sons, Cary G. Tarpinian and his wife Nikki of Weston, Mass., David A. Tarpinian and his wife Debra of Petaluma, Calif., one daughter, Cynthia Herbert and her husband Tim Hikade of Scarborough; grandchildren, Toby Tarpinian of Brunswick and Zachary Herbert and his wife Elisabeth of Boston, Mass., Sarah Travers and her husband Nathan of So. Portland, Benjamin Herbert of Scarborough and Alexander Herbert of Cape Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren, Henry William Herbert and Ella Rose Travers.
