Frederick Peter Dobson

He was born in Portland, ME on April 30, 1929 a son of the late Frederick K. and Mary (Bernatchez) Dobson. Fred was a lifelong resident of Portland. He married his childhood sweetheart Cora on February 22, 1947.

At a young age he helped out his father with his trucking company and later drove trucks for JE Faltin Coles Express for thirty five years. He then became Shop Steward, Business Agent and finally President of the local 340 Teamsters. He retired in 1980 due to illness.

Fred enjoyed his daily walk, starting as a youngster. He built up to ten miles in one walk and was even walking up until his death. He was a very loving and generous man, always thinking of someone else, whether that be his family, friends or even strangers.

Fred will be sadly missed my his wife of sixty three years as well as his eight children Peter Dobson and his wife Janice, Pamela Ouelette and her husband Thomas “TL”, Cindy DuBeau and her husband Bill all of Portland; Jo-Ann Sanborn and her husband David of Otisfield, ME; Ralph Dobson and his wife Donna, Stanley Dobson, Eleanor Albert and Mike Dobson all of Portland. He also leaves a sister Arlene Dougherty and her husband Carl of Otisfield, ME, thirty two grandchildren, fifty six great grandchildren, fifteen great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Joseph, James, and Maryann Dobson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Davine Galntz, Fred’s VNA hospice nurse for all the wonderful and kind support and care you have shown to the entire Dobson family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, August 13, 2010 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 9 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.

Prayers will be recited on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the 8 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 492 Ocean Ave, Portland with Rev. Jack d’Anjou celebrating.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
