

Gary Joseph Greenier passed away on September 16, 2015, following a year long battle with cancer. The son of Alfred Kenneth Greenier and Georgia Marie (Grise) Ross, Gary was born in Portland on October 22, 1947. He grew up in Portland's West End, and graduated from Portland High School. Following graduation he joined the United States Air Force. Gary later went on to become a welder for General Electric and then worked at Hannaford Brothers Warehouse for nearly 30 years.
Gary met and married the love of his life, Michelle, in 1972. Theirs was a true love story, and they went on to have three daughters and raise their family in Cape Elizabeth. Gary was a family man. He was a devoted husband, who truly lived his marriage vows. Gary was a proud father and grandfather, bragging about his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He and his wife Michelle enjoyed traveling together. Bar Harbor was their favorite destination. Gary was an avid sports enthusiast, and he was especially a fan of the New York Yankees. He was known for his strong work ethic and also for his fantastic sense of humor, he made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Alfred Kenneth Greenier and Georgia Marie Ross as well as his stepfather Edwin "Rocky" Ross. Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Michelle (Breton) Greenier, his daughters Kris M. Greenier of Biddeford, Danielle N. Vigus of Englewood, Florida, and Jenyse Y. Rickman and her husband Scott of Cape Elizabeth; grandchildren, Elijah, James, Aidan, Piper Rose, and Nathan; a sister Debra Manyin and her husband Ronald of Fripp Island, South Carolina; as well as many special in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, and close friends.
The family wishes to thank those who helped Gary through this last phase of his life; including family and friends and the nursing staff at Mercy Oncology, your support meant the world to him and is greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Gary's life will take place at Jones, Rich, & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00pm.
