Born and raised in Tarrytown, New York, Geoff attended Syracuse University and then earned an MFA in Sculpture at Arizona State University. After he graduated, he moved to Maine, with his wife, Mary, and baby, Maddie. After spending several years in Kennebunkport, he moved to Munjoy Hill in Portland, which he called home for nearly four decades.
Geoff’s enduring love of ocean life and lore, and his passion for the working waterfront of Portland can be seen in his many public displays of art, as well as in the homes and businesses of countless patrons from Maine to New York. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity, kindness and witty humor. He was a great lover of seafood, and would make his famous bouillabaise for friends and family during the holidays.
Geoff is survived by three daughters, Madeline Spalding of Falmouth, Maine, Meghan Spalding of Portland, Maine, and Morgan Murphy of Falmouth, Maine, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Geoff is also survived by his beloved sister, Judy Herguth, of Tarrytown, New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herguth of Tarrytown, New York.
