

Portland – George E. DiPaolo, 62, died March 31, 2010 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Born April 18, 1947 in Portland he is the son of Adeline Ricci DiPaolo and the late Rosario DiPaolo. He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Walstrom. George was a 1965 graduate of Portland High School attended Ricker College and Gorham State Teachers College. Before becoming proprietor of Papa’s Place in Portland he was a produce manager for IGA Supermarkets.
He was a significant founder of the Riverton T-ball and coached and sponsored several little league teams. George also sponsored and played in local softball leagues and bowled for the Budwiser Team.
He had a passion for gardening, animals, especially his dogs Beau, Luke and Kody and day trips with friends. His gardens fed the local neighbor and beyond. George will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit including growing his own grapes for wine making and tapping the neighborhood maple trees to produce his own maple syrup.
Most notable about George was his humanitarian spirit, always there the help a neighbor or anyone in need, young or old.
Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by four sisters; Annette Hoglund and her husband Peter of Portland, Diane Morency of Wells, Donna J. Walstrom and her significant other Raymond of Casco and Debra A. Sweet and her husband Ken of Portland, his brother; Edward R. DiPaolo and his wife Michele of Fitchburg, MA. and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be Monday April 5, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church 72 Federal St. Portland.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Animal Refuge League P O Box 336 Westbrook, ME 04098.
