Georgia Bea (Yancy) Boyle was born November 27, 1939, in Amarillo, Texas, to Betty Jo (Amos) and Clifton Yancy, the first of four children. Georgia grew up in Amarillo where she attended Amarillo High School.
When Georgia was a senior in high school, Georgia met a handsome young Air Force serviceman, Harry Boyle. Harry was from Maine, and Georgia’s mother called him a “Damn Yankee,” but this southern girl was certainly smitten by the young serviceman. Harry played baseball for the Air Force, and he took Georgia to one of his games on their first date. He struck out in that game but not in his bid for Georgia’s heart. Soon after her graduation from high school, they were married on August 18, 1958.
Georgia had come to know Jesus Christ as Savior at the age of six. She was active in her church, and Harry had visited her church and met Georgia. Through this church ministry, Harry also came to know the Lord, and they were to begin life together with the Lord at the center of their marriage. Harry soon felt called to ministry, and after finishing his education, they moved together back to Maine where they founded the Grace Baptist Church of Portland in 1970. Harry remained pastor and Georgia the pastor’s wife until he moved to the position as Pastor Emeritus in 2008.
Dr. Harry Boyle went home to be with the Lord in 2010, and Georgia continued to be active at Grace Baptist, singing in the choir, working in the Sunday School ministry, and running a personal library of her own books. She was always willing to do anything that needed to be done. One of her gifts was baking, and for many years, she brought friendship cakes every Sunday morning, and those cakes were a staple for the choir member who gathered early to practice each Sunday morning.
Georgia was an avid reader and gardener. The number of books in her home was rivaled only by the number of gardens throughout her property and plants inside her home as well. She often shared clippings of plants with friends far and wide, and also shared books with college students, friends, and fellow church members.
Dr. Boyle was president of Boston Baptist College (formerly known as Baptist Bible College East) for 20 years. During those years as first lady of the college, Georgia (Mrs. Boyle to the students) sent or brought care packages of books, hot chocolate, popcorn, and other treats to the women in the dormitory on a regular basis. Her generosity was and is remembered by scores of students.
Georgia’s first love, outside of her Savior, was always her family. She is survived by her four children: Scott (Maria) of La Porte, Texas; Keith (Jill) of Windham, Maine; Valarie (Dan) Simoneau of Westbrook, Maine; and Corey (Katie) of Casco, Maine; eleven grandchildren: Samantha (Patrick) Boyle Williams, Kaycee Boyle, Kelsey (Nick) Simoneau Spicer, Shelby Simoneau, Sadie Boyle, Ashley Boyle, Harrison Boyle, Haddon Boyle, Addison Boyle, Corbin Boyle, and Callan Boyle, and one great grandchild: Nova Joy Spicer. Georgia is pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Harry R. Boyle, her parents, Betty Jo and Clifton Yancy, and her sister Elaine (Yancy) Amadore. She is also survived by siblings Cliffa Jo (Rev. Bill) Shackelford of Groveland, Florida, and Steve (Melinda) Yancy of Amarillo, Texas.
On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, Georgia had an accidental fall that led to her death on Monday, August 8, 2022. A lifetime of faith in Jesus Christ became reality as she left this body to be present with the Lord.
