Gerald Edward Daigle

Born on November 10, 1939, he was the son of Claude and Irene Daigle. Raised in Sanford, Maine, he graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1958 and worked for the A&P food store in Sanford before being transferred to Portland. He also worked for Prudential Insurance Company. He served in the Maine National Guard for nine years in Sanford and in Portland. He married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Fontaine in Sanford in 1959. (Dolores passed away in 2011 after 52 years of marriage.) He worked as a field appraiser for Cole Layer Trumble Revaluation Company (now Tyler Technologies) and in 1971, was appointed as the Town Appraiser/Assessor for Cape Elizabeth for 26 years. After retiring in 1997, he became a Professional Assessor Consultant for various municipalities in Southern Maine. He served as the Assessor/Agent for municipalities such as Waterboro, Long Island, Frye Island, Standish, North Berwick, Lisbon, Topsham, and Bowdoin. His last assignment was assisting the Assessor on Chebeague Island in 2016.

Jerry remained a professional member of the International Association of Assessing Officers and the Maine Association of Assessing Officers. He was the President of the Northeast Regional Association of Assessing Officers in 1992. He also served on the City of Portland Board of Assessment Review and later, on the Cumberland County Board of Assessment Review. He is survived by his daughters, Laurie A. Daigle and Anne M. Daigle, and his grandchildren, Brit DiFiore and Joe DiFiore (“his greatest joys”). He was predeceased by his sister, Anita Daigle, and his brother, Ronald Daigle. Both of his daughters remained very close to their Dad, which he appreciated very much.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Church 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Stevens Avenue, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
