Gerald E. Mayberry

Portland- Gerald Ellis Mayberry, 92, completed his dance card on Nov 27, 2013. He now is enjoying an eternal dance with his lovely wife of 62 years, Jeanne.

Gerry was born on October 16, 1921 in Westbrook, Maine to Orland and Mildred (Mead)

Mayberry. He was a graduate of Portland High School, 1939, Gorham Normal School,

1941 and University of Maine Orono, 1950 as a Civil Engineer. His academic career

was interrupted by World War II when he served in the Seabees from 1942 to 1946

which took him throughout the Pacific Theater from the Aleutians to the Philippines.

After graduating from U Maine, he worked as a construction foreman for Consolidated

Construction and then as Building Inspector for the City of Portland. Then retiring after

more than 20 years as head of the Engineering Department of the Portland Water

District.

Gerry enjoyed many years of playing singles tennis whenever he had time available

between his favorite activity of dancing with his lifelong partner, Jeanne. Together they

danced throughout Maine, New England, and Europe. Whenever and wherever there

was a dance floor and band available, they would inevitably be found enjoying the

evening polka and ballroom dancing.

He is survived by his two sons, Kevin Mayberry, and Glen Mayberry and wife, Sheila,

and brother-in-law, Jaye McKenney. Four grandchildren, Matthew Tyler, Sierra, Marina

and Mikayla Mayberry. Also nephews, Lawrence Hancock, Timothy and Andrew

McKenney; nieces, Mary and Cheryl McKenney and a special niece, Candace

Hancock.

Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday, Dec 2, 2013 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodfords St. Portland. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St. Portland.
