We are sad to announce the loss of Geralyn Marie Ryan who passed away in her home on March 14, 2024 after succumbing to her long illnesses. She passed away peacefully at the age of 68 surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 10, 1955 in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of Michael and Ceida (Gosselin) O'Keefe.
Directly after high school, Geralyn earned an Associate’s degree in Diet Technology/Nutritional Science at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute in 1976.
While working at Salem Hospital she met the love of her life, Steven D. Ryan. The two were married at St. Patrick's Church on June 7, 1980 in Lawerence, MA. Soon after, Geralyn and Steven moved to Framingham, MA where she continued her career at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Their daughter Katelyn was born five years later. Geralyn’s time was then dedicated to raising their daughter, who was the light of her life, continuing her devotion to her husband, and being an active part of the community.
In 1994, the family moved to Portland, ME. She loved spending time with children in the capacity of volunteering at her daughter's grammar school: Lyseth Elementary. One of her favorite jobs was serving as a crossing guard. Geralyn recognized the significance of taking the time to connect with others. She enjoyed cultivating relationships with children and their families and extending any holiday celebration with stickers, candy and other celebratory keepsakes.
Geralyn was raised a devout Catholic and her faith never wavered. She had an endless supply of prayers for her family, friends and others in need. She enjoyed spending time with her family, hosting parties, baking, boating, keeping a clean home, and shopping.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Steven D. Ryan; her devoted daughter Katelyn M. Ryan and husband Adam N. Swidler and her two cherished grandsons Noah and Zachary Swidler. She will be missed by her brothers: Michael O'Keefe (his wife Kathleen); David O'Keefe; and Patrick O'Keefe (his wife Judy); her brother-in-law Richard Ryan (his wife Lisa), and sisters-in-law Nancy and her late husband Jack Lavorgna, Pamela Ells, and her Uncle Rev. Andrew Gosselin. She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Geralyn was predeceased by her parents and Uncle Maurice Gosselin.
Geralyn may have left this world, but her spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, friend, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but she shall never be forgotten.
