Whoever met Glenn was imprinted with his sweetness, honesty, amazing smile and incredible sense of humor. Glenn’s moral compass was always pointed true north without exception. You could always count on Glenn to do what was right and best. He was the embodiment of integrity and truth. If you asked Glenn what he thought he would tell you with love and grace. He understood human behavior and could see behind the actions to the emotions always able to tease those out toward resolution.
Whether he was with friends, hiking a mountain, working with his clients, pursuing an interest he did so with passion and fully present to the task. Glenn loved living and did so with fervor and optimism.
Glenn’s passions were many and varied including his love of any type of history and archeology.
Glenn was an open minded man and was always eager to learn new and interesting unique things. He loved to write and he completed a short novel, began wood working and sculpting. He was also a passionate french language enthusiast taking lessons inspired by his trip to Paris in his twenties.
Glenn played the coronet and would often fill our home with his music. Glenn was adored and a pure joy to know.
Glenn passed away September 26th leaving those who knew him with much grief, emptiness and pain as his presence was a comfort and joy to all who ever had the honor of spending time or befriending him in his lifetime.
Glenn was a true warrior, never giving up on people or on life.
Glenn was born in Eastport Maine on May 4, 1968. He graduated from Shead High School where he participated in the high school band, the track team and tennis team.
Glenn moved to Portland where he attended the University of Southern Maine earning a Bachelors degree in Psychology. Glenn was a veteran, a Corpsman in the Navy and was eventually deployed to Saudi Arabia where he served in the Persian Gulf War Theatre. Glenn was assigned to a Marine Infantry Unit and was very well respected among his fellow soldiers.
Glenn worked as a Psychiatric Technician for many years until he attended Graduate school where he earned his Master’s degree in Social Work. Glenn worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addiction Counselor also working closely with the Veteran’s Administration in treating veterans re-entering from deployment. Glenn helped many of his clients achieve their goals, always doing so with empathy and respect.
Glenn was happiest when he was in nature, hiking, backpacking, mountain bike riding, cross country skiing with his wife or his dear friends, Eugene Go, Patrick Nevers and Bill Sproull. He will be so very missed by his wife, friends and his family.
Glenn is survived by his Wife of 19 years, Elizabeth Selwood and their cat Klaxon. His sisters Sharon Rideout of Maine, Helene Ahern of Arizona, Gail Winterbottom of Minnesota, Corinne Grant of Maine,
Darlene Barker of Tennessee, Marlene Mitchell of Washington, Sheila Ziegler of Arizona, 10 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews. His cousin Russell Selwood of Maine, cousin Pam King of Massachusetts and her three children, among other cousins. Several loving friends, too many to list, who will remember him well.
Glenn is pre-deceased by his parents Keith and Mary Ileen Selwood, and his nephew Eric Schreck.
