Gloria Jean Miranda

Born Gloria Jean McClure in Owl’s Head, Maine, she graduated from Rockland High School in 1965 and Thomas College in 1967. She settled in Portland, Maine where she raised her two sons. Gloria worked for 35 years at Brockway Smith. Upon retirement, she enjoyed various activities with her friends, musicals, theater, gardening, traveling, quilting, baking, making her own jams, being near the ocean, volunteering in the community including one of her favorites, Painting For A Purpose. Every December, Gloria would transform her entire home into a Christmas Cookie Factory using handed-down recipes from her mother-in-law. Many of her friends and family would eagerly anticipate receiving her coveted tin containers filled with seasonal sweets and brag to others “I got my Gloria’s Christmas Cookies!!”

For those who had the good fortune to know Gloria, she was a wonderfully kind & caring person with a keen wit and fierce love that would hug your very soul. A sense of humor that was unmatched, you would laugh from your belly when you were with her. Whether taking shots at herself or finding humor around her, she understood each day was a gift and find a way to create a smile. Above all, she cherished her family. She taught her family how to love unconditionally. Whether it was during the Holidays, Family Beach House, Birthdays, Vacations, she was the person who made it all come together. She made it better. And for those who knew her two sons, knew how strong and special Gloria had to be to raise such “challenging” boys.

She also leaves behind a large network of extremely close friends who adored her immensely. She was a strong woman, stubborn yet gentle but direct. You always knew what she was thinking. She was a constant reminder of what is right in this world. She was the epitome of grace and kindness. Rarely a day went by in her retirement that she didn’t have an event plan with one; breakfast with the girls, coffee or lunch with an old friend, dinner with former co-workers, drinks with her family. She was never one to stay in the same spot. She especially loved doting on her grandchildren, treasuring her “Joey” sleepovers and “baby doll time” with Mila.

Gloria is predeceased by her brother, Charlie McClure Sr. and her sister, Heather McClure.

She is survived by her two loving sons, Todd Miranda of Falmouth and Joshua Miranda of Portland and her grandchildren, Joey and Mila Miranda.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the MMC Cancer Center in Scarborough for their professionalism, compassion and support and to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation at Jones, Rich & Hutchins 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00A.M. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.
