Dear Foote Family and Friends:

Please accept my deepest condolences on your family's loss. For the past 12 years I have directed the US Navy Japanese/Oriental Language School Archival Project, at the Archives, University of Colorado Boulder Libraries. During this time we corresponded with, and sent our project newsletter (The Interpreter) to, Mr. Foote. He enjoyed reading the newsletter, filled as it was with fellow WWII Japanese Language Officer comments and stories. Surprisingly, he did not blast me for poor journalism, or offer many pointers. Maybe he knew me for an amateur. 

He was justly proud of his WWII service as a Japanese Language Officer and remembered fondly his time learning Japanese at the University of Colorado. We will miss his correspondence and good fellowship. Please let me know if our project can be of service to the family.

I was saddened to learn of Harry's passing. He was a great inspiration and mentor to me during the years I worked for the Westbrook American and American Journal. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Harry Foote.  He was always kind, thoughtful, and a fascinating character when I visited him and his family, and when I worked for the American Journal one summer long ago.  My symapthies to his wonderful family.

It's fair to say that Harry changed my life. He took a chance on me in 1988 and gave me a job as a reporter. His work ethic and values inspired me. All these years later, I'm still a reporter because of him. To Anne, Ray and all the family, I offer my condolences and thanks for sharing a great man with the rest of us.

What an inspiration! I have always held the Foote family in highest esteem as they have been such an inspiration to so many of us. My deepest sympathy to you all. Mr. Foote's accomplishments will continue to inspired though he will be greatly missed.

Harry was a truly wonderful man. He will be missed. You are all in my thoughts, in my prayers, in my heart.

Anne and Ray and loved ones...I shall never ever forget Harry, and the way he sponsored me and Gertrude Hanscom and our social news columns.  I started writing the Westbrook column way back in the late fifties or early sixties, and was still writing for him after Gertrude died in 1988 when I took back my Gorham column at her death the day after my 25th wedding anniversary party, after turning it over to her at the birth of my son Joe.  Harry was a great boss, and made me feel very very special about my writing;  and I will never forget it. There are many others who will never forget him as well, for his dedication to his newspaper, and the truth as he saw it.   You were all very good to me, and I shall keep the Foote family in my heart now and forever!  Frances Johnson Mains of Westbrook/Gorham and now of Raymond.

To the Foote family,  Mr, Foote was always good to me, meeting me and mentoring me when I was a sophomore at South Portland HS, and we remained friends and a man I held in great esteem as a professional all the way to when I retired from the Westbrook Police as Chief.   Mr. Foote, a great mentor, an advisor, a friend and great newsman!  I will never forget you,

Mr. Foote was a true gentleman who was not focused on himself but showed a true interest in others. It was a pleasure to know him.
