

Yarmouth, ME – Howard W. Lindsey Sr., 95, of Yarmouth and formerly of Portland died Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Costal Manor. He was the husband of the late Geraldine W. (Maxell) Lindsey who died in December 1990 and the late Edith B. (Brasier) Lindsey who died in September 2005.
Howard was born in Durham, ME on February 23, 1915 a son of the late Chester J. & Anne (Osgood) Lindsey. He attended local area schools and graduated from Deering High School.
Howard worked in the Shipyard as a ship fitter until just after WWII before becoming a meat cutter for A&P Stores and eventually retired from Shaw’s Supermarket. He also spent some time working for Cushman’s Bakery.
He enjoyed wood working and was well known for his bird carvings. He also built clocks by hand. He was also a long time member of Central Square Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son Howard W. Lindsey Jr. and his wife Barbara of Cape Elizabeth, a daughter-in-law Carol Tracey of Bangor, his five granddaughters Beth-Ann DeWitt and her husband Shane of Glenburn, Donna Pease and her husband Christopher of Winterport, Kathleen Ennis and her husband David of Windham, Karen Varney and her husband Edward of Belfast and Cheryl Walker and her husband Bradley of Portland. He also leaves eleven great grandchildren as well as a sister Ruth Burnell of Ocean Park, a step daughter Marilyn Brasier of Portland and a stepson Wayne Brasier of Otisfield. He was also the father of the late James P. Lindsey who died in September 1979 and the brother of the late Donald Lindsey who died in February 1988.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Rustin officiating.
Interment will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street, Portland.
