Portland- Jan Thomas Allen, 76, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The son of Robert William Allen Sr. and Pauline (Gagne) Allen, he was born on October 14, 1949 in Portland. He grew up in Libby Town, and attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School and the University of Maine also in Portland. Growing up he was a paperboy, and while in college worked for Hoods delivering milk.
After graduation from college he started working at his alma mater as an assistant athletic trainer, where he thoroughly enjoyed working with the sports teams. He also served as a substitute teacher at the high school for over 40 years. He will be fondly remembered by the student athletes and was well known around greater Portland, often running into his former students. Running was Jan’s passion throughout his adult life.
He was predeceased by his wife Faye Allen, in 2021, his brothers, David Allen, and Robert Allen.
He is survived by, his siblings, Paul Allen (Simone), Vincent Allen, Katherine Bruni (John), Maureen Allen (George Vercelli), Donna Maruta Pyper (Dennis), and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 4-6 PM at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date to be announced on the funeral home’s website. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
