

James grew up on Peaks Island where he met his wife Wendy. He graduated from Portland High School in 1971 and attended University of Maine Orono after. James worked for Hews Company several years before starting a property management company which he continued to run for 40 years.
He was involved in housing and landlord rights with both the city and state dealing with issues around housing. He was involved for many years in The Portland Hockey Trust and in his boy’s hockey programs thru Casco Bay and at the high school levels. He was on the Board of Southern Maine Landlord Association and volunteered many hours at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen.
James leaves behind his wife of 40 years Wendy Lewis, three sons Matt and wife Emilie, Chris and wife Kristin, and Jeremy and fiancé Jenna. Grandson Mj, soon to be granddaughter Laci and step granddaughters Kyleigh and Ella; His brother Arthur Harmon and wife Mary Ellen; sister Claudine Grantz and husband Paul; best friend John Davis who spend many days visiting him during his last months along with many friends and family.
