

Janet Lawson Dow, 72 passed away Sunday March 27, 2011 at the Barron Center. She was born in Marlborough, MA June 17, 1938 the daughter of Arthur and Madeline (Mixter) Lawson. Janet had attended schools in Worcester, MA, Warwick, RI, Mexico, ME, Yarmouth, ME and graduated from Deering High School in 1956. Janet meet her future husband Donald J. Dow while Roller Skating and was married in Portland on April 15, 1961.
Mrs. Dow was a longtime resident of Portland Maine. Janet had worked for H.P.Hood for over 46 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Janet was a 50+ year and Life member of the Cornerstone Chapter #193 Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as Past Matron and was past Grand Representative to British Columbia in 1991-1992. She was a Majority Sister of Portland Assembly #1 I.O.R.G. She was also a member of the Riverton Couples Club. Janet’s hobbies included Roller-skating and Bowling, she bowled on ladies and couples leagues for several years during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
She also enjoyed traveling, having visited Switzerland, Germany, France, England, Belgium, Canada, and numerous trips to Florida, California and Hawaii. Caring for and reading to her grandchildren made her life full. Janet’s love of life, her smile and her infectious Laugh were loved by all and will be missed, as will her love of whoopie pies and brownie edges.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Donald Justin Dow on Sept.2, 2003, and her infant son David A. Dow who died at birth on Nov. 25, 1969.
She is survived by her daughter Martha L. Bolinger of Gorham and her son in law John W. Bolinger of Indiana; her two brothers, Conrad M. Lawson and Philip N. Lawson both of New York and her Grandchildren Siobhan L. Bolinger and Justin P. Bolinger of Gorham and UMO. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews of Maine, California, New York and Pennsylvania.
Janet’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff at the Baron Center, Beacon Hospice and SolAmor Hospice for the loving and graceful care given to Janet over the past 6 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Sunday April 10, 2011 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Jones Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, Portland. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
