Born in Portland to Giovanni DiMillo and Rosalia (DiNardo) DiMillo November 28, 1938, he attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School class of 1957. He was a lineman for the Portland Bulldogs and remained a fan and supporter throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Bronzy Club. He married Dolores Ciriello July 29, 1961. They were married for 61 years.
John served in the US Army, 57 Medical Battalion stationed in the Black Forest region of Germany before returning to Maine. He worked as a bricklayer for several companies including Maine Masonry. He was a member of the Bricklayer’s Union, retiring in 2002 to Dunedin, Florida. He and Dolly returned to Maine in 2022 to be closer to family.
He is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Mary Fray and Antoinette (Barbara) Ely. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, his older brother Alberto of Sarasota, FL and sister, Francesca Vumbacca of Portland. His sons, Michael (Maria) of Falmouth, John (Tracy) and their children Victoria, Dominic and Josephina, and James (Jennifer) and their sons, Nicholas and Anthony, all of Tampa, FL.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell House staff for their loving comfort and care during this difficult time.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 72 Federal St., Portland, Saturday, November 26 at 10:00am. Internment Monday, November 28, 9:00 am Cavalry Cemetery, South Portland.
