

John P. O'Rourke, 67, died suddenly on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Portland, Maine on March 2, 1945, the son of the late Gerald M. and Mary M. (Connolly) O'Rourke. John was a graduate of Cheverus High School and atttended St. Anslem College before returning home to work in the family business, Connolly Bros.. As a young boy, he started pumping gas in the third grade after school and continued his life-long work ethic.
John was a well-known businessman who owned and operated O'Rourke Oil, Commercial Fuel and City Oil before retiring from the oil business. Unable to remain inactive, he helped out his good friends at ABC Taxi in the garage and on the road. John was a very compassionate person who helped many people throughout his life.
John enjoyed music, old cars and people. He enjoyed his early morning coffee routine with his best friend since the third grade, Pasquale Napolitano. John enjoyed trips to the casinos and horse races.
John was a special brother and uncle. He especially treasured spending time with his great nephew Daniel.
John was predeceased by his father, mother and brother, Fr. Gerald D. O'Rourke. He is survived by his sister, Mary C. O'Rourke, of Portland and Gorham, his niece, Anne-Marie O'Rourke and great nephew, Daniel G. Landry, both of Peaks Island.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 5-8 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:00am at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.
