John was born in Rumford, ME on April 6, 1926; the son of the late Clyde W. and Mary (McIlroy) Watson.
He attended local schools, and for over 37 years John worked as Secretary of the Scottish Rite of Maine.
John was a 33rd Degree Mason of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. He belonged to the Portland St.
Alban Commandery and the Cumberland-Mt. Vernon Royal Arch Chapter. John was a Past Master of the
Triangle Lodge #1 A.F & A.M. as well as a member of the Kora Shrine.
Following retirement John stayed active assisting others in Masonic service. He enjoyed travelling to
various locations of Canada and the United States both visiting family end enjoying history.
John was a member of the Westbrook United Methodist Church where he held several offices and sang
in the choir until it closed. After it closed he and his family became members of Cressey Rd. United
Methodist Church in Gorham.
Predeceasing John are his parents, a step-sister Ernestine Thompson and a cousin Melvin D. Watson.
Surviving John is his loving wife Juanita M. (Clark) Watson of Westbrook, their son John E. Watson Jr. of
Westbrook, a brother Stanley Webster Watson and his wife Toni of Portland and several nieces and
nephews.
A period of visitation for John will be held this Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at the Jones,
Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME; where a Masonic Ritualistic Service will
be held at 7:00 PM. A funeral service for John will be held on Friday the 7th at 10:00 AM, at the funeral
home. Burial will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
The family wishes to thank all the nursing staff of the Barron Center Alzheimer’s unit Stroudwater wing.
