Mr. Gately was a pillar in the parish community of St. Maurice Church, Bolton, CT., most especially as a Knight of Columbus and regular lector at the Saturday Vigil Mass. A seasoned lector, he read the Scriptures with clarity. During the Prayer Intentions, we enjoyed how he sneaked in wishes for success for local sports teams!

My memory of Joe goes back to the early 1960's when I shared an apartment on Amory Street in Boston with Jean. This was a match made in heaven. My marriage to Bill for 56 years now, leads me to know you will miss him.. My condolences to you, Jean.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Joe during the 80s while we were both independent insurance agents and afterward when he brought his wealth of insurance expertise to The Connecticut Department of Insurance.
Joe often described himself as "A Jesuit Trained Marine" and in life he demonstrated the highest standards of both. While our paths diverged over recent years, I would always enjoy a fond memory of him each year on November 10 (The Birthday Celebration of The United States Marine Corps). I'm confident that when Joe reports into Saint Peter, he will be dressed in his dress blue uniform with all awards and decorations, wearing tennis shoes and lubricated with a "light coat of oil".
Semper Fi Joe!

I knew Joe years ago through activities at the A&R Union. I well remember his smile, and of course his non-Connecticut accent! He was a very nice person - very friendly and always had a kind word. Even though some of us were skeptical about his love of flying....

My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Joe Gately. I met Joe at the Connecticut Insurance Department and enjoyed many fine conversations with him. We found that we were both "Eagles" and we enjoyed talking about Boston College and our ties to the Boston area. He was very proud of his family. I am sorry for your loss.
