Westbrook, ME- Joseph F. Gately, 84, formerly of Bolton, CT, passed away on July 9, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial following a brief illness. He was born in South Boston, MA, a son of Frederick and Catherine (Murphy) Gately. He was a graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College. He served in U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Joseph retired from the Connecticut Insurance Department in 2001 after a 45-year career in the insurance industry.
He was an active member of St. Maurice Church in Bolton where he was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a lector at the church for many years.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, William and Edward.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean S. Gately of Westbrook, ME; daughter, Susan J. Horne and her husband Stephen of Wilton, NY; sons, Michael J. Gately and his wife Sonja of Westbrook, ME, and Stephen F. Gately and his wife Andrea of Bedford, NH.; grandchildren, Katherine, Joseph, Patrick, Jacob, Erika and Christopher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland.
