Obituary
Dr. Jake Hannemann, 84, of Cape Elizabeth died on May 11, 2018 from cancer. Born on March 14,1934 to Florence and Joseph Hannemann, he grew up in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Lafayette College and Jefferson Medical College. He began practicing Radiation Oncology at The Maine Medical Center in 1971, serving as Department Head for 34 years. With his wife, Judith, he designed and conducted 25 years of Discovery Weekend cancer support retreats for patients and their families.
Jake is survived by his wife Judith of Cape Elizabeth, son Christopher Hannemann of Carmel, Indiana, son Paul and daughter-in-law Charlotte Hannemann of League City, Texas, daughter Melanie McKean of Cape Elizabeth, grandsons Joshua, Caleb, Nathan, Benjamin Hannemann and Ryan McKean. Jake’s son, John, predeceased him in 2003.
Dr. Jake was a founding member of the Maine Cancer Foundation and initiated the Root Cellar Adult Clinic, serving as its volunteer physician.
Friends may call at the Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home at 199 Woodford Street, Portland on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at The Church of the Holy Spirit,1047 Congress Street, Portland at 11:00 a.m.
