Born on August 18, 1943 to his parents Joseph Iaconeta and Helen Curran, Joseph Jr. spent his childhood living in Portland Maine. In 1962 he graduated with his class from Deering High School, (go Rams!).
He went on to marry his wife Carmela M Iaconeta (Candy) in the summer of 1971 on July 3. Together they settled down in their home in Westbrook.
Joseph accomplished much in his life, but perhaps most notable was his time in the Air National Guard. He served with them for thirty six years and in that time was awarded: the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon, the Combat Readiness Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, the Air Force Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Maine Achievement Award Ribbon, the Commander’s Award, the Maine Good Conduct Ribbon, the Maine Emergency Service Award, and the Maine 1998 Ice Storm Guard Award.
He was also the owner of his shop Ikes Auto and spent time working at Nissen Bakery.
Never a dull moment, he loved cars, gambling and making sarcastic comments to get a rise out of people. On occasion he would take the title of “Yard Sale Supervisor” or “Professional Back Yard Engineer”.
Joseph leaves behind his wife Carmela M. Iaconeta, his children: Joseph R Iaconeta III and his fiancée Sarah Winant, Annmarie Iaconeta and her fiancé Michael Russell, his foster daughter: Elsie Strout, his grandchildren: Marie Iaconeta, Natalie Iaconeta, Vanessa Iaconeta and her fiancé Gabriel Martin, Dominic Iaconeta, Julia Hawkes, his siblings: Michael Iaconeta, Vick Iaconeta and his wife Wendy, Helen S.
