Portland - Joseph Pastore, 76, died Saturday July 30, 2011 at the Maine Medical Center. Born January 9, 1935 in Portland he was the son of the late Thomas and Lucy Spaltro Pastore. He was born into a hard working Italian family, as a child he loved the working water front of the city. He would often spend his free time fishing off the state pier. After high school Joe joined the US Air Force, and was stationed in California working as military police for four years. When he finished serving his country, he wasted no time coming back to the State of Maine where he settled and started his family. He was a very loving father and husband who worked very hard to support his five children.
He became a certified US Diver, and pioneer in the diving industry. Working on and cleaning up oil spills and inspecting bridge structures under water. Joe went on to start the first environmental clean up company in Maine, and inventing multiple patents that help the marine industry. Many people in the business often said " if they had a problem all they had to do was call Joe" . He loved diving and taught his sons the trade as well.
Joe loved to cook. His prized meals (mostly Italian) were enjoyed by many people and conversations often focussed on food. We would love to see his eyes light up when he would go to the fridge and bring food over to offer to whoever was hungry. The man had a big heart. Rest easy Dad, you did very well as a father. We will miss you everyday, and think of you often.
He is survived by his wife; Mary E Porter Pastore, and three children, Michelle, Joe, Kathy, and John.
