Judith Bean

Judith received her GED from Portland High School in 1974 and began working at the University of Southern Maine where she was employed for 21 years. When her employment with the university ended, Judith enrolled as a student, graduating with honors in May 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Judith’s daughter, Jodi, received her Associate Degree in Therapeutic Recreation at the same time.

Judith continued her higher education at Boston College and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2001. Judith worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Sacopee Valley Health Center until her retirement.

In May 1985 Judith married her husband, Maynard Bean, who remained by her side until the time of her death. Together they enjoyed travelling, shopping for treasures at yard sales and craft fairs, and watching the birds that gathered at their feeders.

Judith is survived by her sister, Bonnie Newcomb and niece Michelle Newcomb of Bedford, NH, son Gary Rich of Richmond, VA, and daughter Jodi Critchley of South Portland. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Jacorey Monterio, Gabriella Critchley, Zachary Rich, Montana Rich, and Madison Rich. Judith is survived by one beloved great-grandchild, Jordan Monterio.

Additionally, Judith is survived by her stepchildren Deborah Sanborn, Kimberly Rollins, and Daniel Bean, four step grandchildren; Sarah Appleby, Nolan Rollins, Amber Mercuro, and Brianna Wolf, and six great step grandchildren.

A Celebration of Judith's life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the West Gorham Union Church, 190 Ossipee Trail Gorham. A reception will follow. Judith will be interred at the Southern Maine Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.

The family wants to thank each of the caregivers from First Light Home Care who provided comfort and companionship to both Judith and Maynard over the past 15 months.
