Farmington- June B (Noring) Durost formerly of Cape Elizabeth, died on Sunday, May 1, 2016, in Farmington. She was the wife of the late James Durost who passed away February 14, 2008. June was born in Lowell, MA on June 15, 1927, a daughter of Henry N. and Blanche B. (Robinson) Noring. She attended local schools in Lowell and Dover. June graduated from Deering High School in 1944 and Westbrook College in 1946.
June was employed by Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company headquarters in Portland. It was there that her broken heart was mended when she meet James Durost. She was by his side as his career
developed, as they traveled and caring for him in his final days. Family was the center of her
being and she gave with all her heart. She made everyone feel special and treated her nieces
and nephews as if they were her own. She was one of a kind and will be truly missed. June had
impeccable manners, style, class and truth be told; a little wicked streak that we all loved. A little
shrug of her shoulders would be accompanied by an innocent, "who me?" reply. She had a
wonderful laugh and grand sense of humor. She has lead by example and taught us the value of
charity instilled by her parents, whom she loved dearly. She was a skilled seamstress making
stuffed animals as a hobby. She had a green thumb for gardening and was a wonderful cook
and baker. Knitting with Connie and coffee chats with sister Barbara and her mother were a
treasured past time. Shopping escapades with the girls always caused giggles. Her love of cars
was shared with her nephews. She loved Sebago Lake and later their cottage on Great
Diamond Island.
In addition her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Benjamin, Henry and
Robert Noring, his wife Connie; sister, Barbra Welch and her husband Francis.
She is survived by nephews, William Welch and wife Karen, Frank Welch and companion Linda Cardona, all of South Portland; nieces, Elizabeth and husband Dr. Alan
Black of Parkland, FL, Judy Diaz of Jay, Betsy Haney of Buxton and the grands' Joseph and
Jennifer Black of Parkland, FL, Caitlin Haney of Portland and Jose and Libby Diaz of Jay; Jim's
son Steven Durost and wife Linda of Topsham and his daughter Lorna Driscoll of Lewiston.
The family would like to thank June's caregivers, they have a special place in our hearts.
