June was born in Portland on June 13, 1939 the daughter of Fred A. and Eleanor (Arey) Coburn
June was a lifelong resident of Portland and graduated from Portland High School. Soon after graduating high school she married and started her family. She was employed by Nicely's market on Brighton Ave in Portland for 15 years where she was affectionately known as 'Ma' by the kids in the neighborhood. She was a kind, compassionate and charitable person who organized several fund raising benefits for neighborhood families in need. Her house was always open to relatives, friends and neighbors. Although she had to stop working at a young age due to a disabling illness, her grandchildren gave her the courage to continue to live a full and happy life.
During her recent illness she was blessed to witness the birth of her first great-grandchild which helped her through that struggle. Words cannot describe the love her children had for her. They were in awe of her courage and strength. She was an avid New England Sports fan but her true passion which she inherited from her Father was her beloved Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed the simple pleasures such as trips to the White Mountains in New Hampshire and barbecue's with family Maine state parks
June was predeceased by her father Fred A. Coburn; brother William F. Coburn; son Daniel Lee MacMillan and her beloved daughter-in-law, Cathy Valade MacMillan. She was also predeceased by her former husband and father of her children, Thomas Lee MacMillan.
She is survived by her mother Eleanor A. Coburn of 100 State Street, Portland; two sons, William F. MacMillan and his wife Lisa of Gorham and Peter J. MacMillan of Biddeford, her daughter Sandra D. Walsh and her husband Edward of Portland; one sister, Janice E. Ananian and her husband Michael of Exeter, N.H., and one brother Richard F. Coburn of Delta, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Tuesday May 3, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St., with prayers and a celebration of her life to follow at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Phil Shearman will officiate.
