I will never forget Kevin as both our "upstairs neighbor" and friend.  When I babysat for you when the kids were small, he would drive me home and give me tips on my love life! 😊 Kevin was always a kind and caring person, and I am so sorry that you and the world have lost him.

I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Kevin through track meets. I think he knew he was living a blessed life because he always went out of his way to share his warmth and love with those around him whether friends or soon to be friends. There were no strangers in Kevin's world as the remembrance in the paper so eloquently stated.  His students and athletes were also blessed that he found his true calling in life (or it found him) as an educator and coach. 
I will miss his check-ins before track meets with a hello how are you before the chaos of the rest of the day ensued. Rest in peace Coach.

Kevin you were one of the great ones. We shared so many fun times during our years at Shaw's. I was so happy to see you after so many years had passed . We talked like no time had passed. You were there to support your brother Jeff at his play. As people come and go in your life you will always be remembered as a kind, caring supportive soul who touched so many people. My heart is saddened for Kevin’s family . . . I had the pleasure of getting to know Kevin through track and field . . . All one had to do was watch his interactions with his teams, his dedication to his athletes, his infectious smile and his outgoing personality to see what a great person he was! Kevin played sports with my brother Rick. Little league and on. I'm saddened to hear of this. Such a great guy and always greeted me with a warm hello when I would bump into him. His mom Marilyn was a nurse for my Dad when he had his accident in the 70's. She was a very good friend to my mom through his recovery.  God bless you Kevin. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family....sorry for your loss Jeff.

I first met Kevin when our children were at Lincoln Middle and Deering High. I later got to know him as a track coach at Lincoln and then Deering. As a coach he was just what you would want for your child. He was always positive and supportive of his athletes. He treated them as if they were his own.
My favorite memory of him was when at Deering. He had a sprinter named Rebecca Schack and he nicknamed her "The Schack Attack". He would yell that as she was racing around the Expo track. I'll never forget it.

I was shocked to hear that Kevin had passed as I saw him this spring in front of his home. He couldn't stop talking about his grandchildren and his excitement about the upcoming softball season.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, your father, and your grandfather. He was an amazing role model.

Kevin was in my kindergarten class. We went to school together K-12. Kevin's Mom was my Cub Scout Den Mother. I spent countless days at Kevin's house, some of them were  "snow days". We would listen to Jeff's records like E Pluribus Funk, Tommy, and Nilsson Schmilsson. We would  jam out and play games or whatever. 

We drifted apart in High School, but reconnected on Facebook. We chatted on and off over the years.

He still had that fantastic sense of humor, but it was his humility and sincere kindness that was amazing. Kevin's goodness even came through in Facebook Messenger chats.

My deepest condolences to Linda and Kevin's friends and family.  I wish them comfort and peace in this difficult time.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Kevin’s family. Our three daughters were blessed to have Kevin as a Track coach at Deering. He was an outstanding coach who had a gift for creating a positive team community. He genuinely cared, encouraged and supported each  one of his athletes. His joy was contagious and inspiring! We will forever be thankful for the sweet memories and the wonderful impact he had in our family. Prayers of comfort for his family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m still in shock from the news and truly don’t know where to begin. Campbell meant so much to me, he was my coach, my mentor, and, for a time, someone I had the privilege of coaching alongside. I will always cherish the memories I have with him.

His support and guidance meant the world to me. He was always cheering me on through high school, undergrad, and graduate school. Campbell was like a big cup of sunshine. Whether we were just chatting or grabbing a quick lunch, he always brought warmth and joy. The love and passion he had for everyone around him were truly unmatched.

Linda, my heart goes out to you. Campbell was such a caring person to everyone. The love he had for you and your family was evident and inspiring. All the pictures he shared of the two of you during your trips abroad were so sweet!

Campbell, thank you for everything you’ve done for me and for always being there as I grew older. I hope you’re evening out those sock tan lines, enjoying endless games of golf while listening to Thunderstruck. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.

My deepest sympathies to you all. I cannot imagine what you are going through, and I am sending you so much love during this difficult time. Words cannot describe how heartbroken and shocked I was to hear about Coach Campbell’s passing. He was such an important part of my life growing up. A true mentor and coach who wanted nothing more than for you to succeed in your own way. 

Whenever I thought I couldn’t do something, whether it was another rep, a race, or anything in life, he would always tell me, 'Just do your best.' His quotes of encouragement before handing us a brutal workout (that he knew we could do) in the halls of Deering are some of my fondest high school memories. During meets, I could always hear his voice in the heat of a race, yelling my splits and urging me to keep going. He saw my passion for track and field and helped me grow to heights I never imagined. I am truly more than grateful, lucky, and honored to have been one of his many athletes.

To Coach Campbell—I hope you're playing golf to your heart’s content up in heaven, where it’s always golfing weather and the grass is always green. ❤️

Oh Coach Campbell. I really don’t even have the words to describe the profound impact you have had on my life. You were always so kind and forthcoming with words of wisdom. You coached me all through my middle school years in track and soccer, and my short stint on the high school team. As I began to lose focus on sports and academics and picked up speed with the wrong crowd I always hated facing you. Not because I feared retribution, but because I know you always truly wanted the best for me. I know scores of young women who you helped in the same way. I truly regret not having stayed in touch with you more as an adult. And I’m so thankful for the surprise visit you made to my parents house when you heard I was back in Maine from Georgia visiting. I am truly heartbroken. Some people regardless of the time apart, leave a mark on your heart forever. You have done so, and will be so missed.

I am so sorry for all of Kevin's family, friends and former athletes about the sudden loss of Kevin.  I coached against Kevin for many years in the SMAA and very much admired his work as Deering's girls coach.  I'm sure he will be dearly missed by all.

As parents of a long-time friend of Kevin we know of many stories and how much he will be missed by all of us.

We will be forever grateful for the support and kindness he showed while coaching my daughters track and soccer teams. She grew so much with his guidance.  He challenged her to be her best.  This is a lesson that has served her well. 

He was just good and helpful and funny. 
We haven't seen him in years but this news has us remembering the good times and mourning the loss.

I was heartbroken to hear of Kevin’s passing. We were classmates at Deering High School, Class of ’77, and I will always remember him as a kind, steady, and genuinely good soul.

Kevin had a natural warmth that made him easy to be around — always positive, always gracious, and always a friend. His relationship with Linda, his high school sweetheart and lifelong partner, was a beautiful testament to lasting love and devotion. .

I am so sorry to hear of Kevin’s passing. I will always remember his positive, exuberant, fun coaching style from my 4 years of running track and playing soccer at Deering High. Kevin was a great coach with a contagious excited energy and had a huge impact on a generation of student athletes in Portland. I fondly remember many hours of running in the Deering hallways and Kevin cheering and yelling splits. After such positive experiences in school sports, I’ve gone on to coach youth soccer and elementary school track and I’m sure many others have as well. He will be missed!

We lived on the first floor of 51 Montrose Ave, and Kevin, his older brother Jeff, his mom and dad lived on the 2nd floor (49 Montrose Ave). I always remember their entire family going bowling in Scarborough at the Big 20 on Saturday's. I even remember seeing Kevin bowl on a live televised Saturday competition on channel 13. Their house was LOADED with trophy's because they were all fantastic bowlers. I had never seen so many trophy's in one place before. My condolences to Kevin's family. May he rest in peace.
