
Lawrence Jon Lewis, 80, passed away on June 3rd, 2020. He was born in Portland, Maine on March 10, 1940, son of George I. and Minnie Weisberg Lewis. Larry grew up in Portland with his three brothers, Bernard, David, and Paul.
He was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy in 1958 and Harvard College in 1962. Upon graduation, he married Karen Kibler and went on to get his master’s in French literature from Harvard in 1963. He then taught French at the Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
With his wife and two children, he relocated to Louisville, Kentucky where he wrote for the Courier-Journal and had a radio show reading for the blind. He later moved to New York City where he was an advertising copywriter. In the early 1970s, he was offered a position to work for Investors Overseas Services in France, continuing as a copywriter. After his third child was born, he returned to Maine and began working for the family business at Penobscot Poultry and obtained his real estate and insurance licenses. He went on to meet his second wife Diane Baker Lewis. They were married for 41 years and lived in Los Angeles and in Jamaica for a short time before returning to Maine.
He was predeceased by his parents and two of his brothers. He is survived by his wife Diane, his brother David and his wife Elaine, his former wife Karen and their three children, Adam I., Zoe, and Jason H., along with 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
