It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Leroy C. Wormell III, known to most as "Lee," on June 29, 2025, after a courageous and unwavering battle with ALS. Lee faced his diagnosis with remarkable strength, dignity, and grace. Even in the most challenging moments, his love, positivity, and enduring spirit never faded, staying true to the person he was and inspiring everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Lee was born on October 19, 1965, in Westbrook, Maine, to Carole (Eliason) and Leroy Wormell II. He spent his childhood enjoying the outdoors, playing sports, forming deep lifelong friendships, and working on the family farm where his love for hard work and nature took root. Lee was proud to be a part of the 4H Brass Knob Steer Club and went on to win the Conservation Farm Award later in life in 2008. Working alongside his father and grandfather in his early life, his passion for farming and agriculture blossomed and would then trigger this passion to be passed down for generations to come.
After graduating from Westbrook High School in 1984, and college bound to UMO for agriculture, Lee met Lisa Greenstreet at Old Orchard Beach on August 5, 1984, this meeting, without knowing, would change their lives forever. Lee and Lisa married on July 13, 1991, beginning their lifelong partnership full of love, laughter, and resilience. Together, they built a strong, loving family and a life rich in meaning. He was a proud and devoted father to his children Brendon and Christina and took immense joy in watching them grow, experience life, follow their dreams and start families of their own. Later in life, he welcomed three beautiful grandchildren who made his life whole. Family was the foundation to Lee’s life, he took pride in and loved being a husband, a father and a “Bumpa”
Those who knew Lee will remember him outdoors. Whether in the field haying, in the woods hunting, on a trail snowmobiling or on a river dredging for gold, Lee felt connected to the land and shared that love with those around him. They will remember his jokes and humor and his steadfast optimism and unwavering love for life. They will remember his ability to form genuine connections with people from all walks of life, making everyone feel seen and heard. Lee’s legacy is one of love, strength, kindness, and deep-rooted family values. He will be remembered for the life he lived and the many lives he touched and will be forever missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Wormell; his son and daughter-in-law, Brendon and Bri Wormell; his daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Andrew McKenzie; and his cherished grandchildren, Georgia, Grant, and Emery Wormell. He also leaves behind his loving parents, Carole and Leroy Wormell II; his brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Sherisse Wormell; his sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Tom Smarc; and his loyal dog, Rusty. Lee was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Leroy and Helen Wormell; his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Geraldine Mosher; and his mother-in-law, Patricia Greenstreet.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday July 5, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. There will be a Celebration of Life at the family farm for family and friends at 79 Corey Road, Cumberland, Maine.
