Elaine was witty with a great sense of humor, stubborn, and very caring. She was often putting others before herself, being very charitable and always wanting to help out in any way she could. She worked at Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland and later on the family farm on Running Hill Road in Scarborough during her 25 years of marriage.
Elaine enjoyed crafts, puzzles and games, and loved spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, especially so later in life. In the spring and summer she would often be found reading in the calm of the Tribute Garden at 75 State Street in Portland, where she was a resident for almost 26 years. She was a life-long member of the Scarborough Free Baptist Church, attending whenever she was able. Much appreciation goes to the staff and residents at 75 State Street and to the community of Scarborough Free Baptist Church for their friendships, love, care, and support.
Elaine is survived by her children Patty Searles and Kevin Douglas, her daughter-in-law Sandy Douglas, her 6 grandchildren including Carrie Searles, Madison Searles, and Tanya Philpot, her 14 great-grandchildren including Collin Hoffman, and 1 great- great- grandchild, her best friends Louise Kelly and Debbie Densmore, her former husband Stanley Douglas, and her stepsons Warren, Chris, Jeff, and Jim.
She is preceded in death by her son Steve Douglas (2021) and grandson Tommy Searles (1992).
A celebration of life will be held from 2 - 4 pm on January 14th at Scarborough Free Baptist Church.
Those who knew Elaine are invited to share their fond memories or stories at that time, below on this page, or with Pastor Michael Dalton at 207-590-4166 to possibly be shared at the celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to be used towards the purchase of a memorial to Elaine in the Tribute Garden at 75 State Street. Any amount in excess of the memorial will be donated in her name to charity, as she would wish.
