Lorraine passed away peacefully on Monday September 29th, 2014. She was born in Portland Maine on June 8th, 1927. She was the daughter of James and Florence O’Leary. Lorraine was the sixth of seven children. She was educated in the Portland schools, and remained a resident of Portland her entire life.
She was a devoted mother to her only son Michael Steven. She was also a dedicated caregiver to her family and friends for many years. To Lorraine, food was love. Her macaroni and cheese was her signature dish. To this day, no one has been able to replicate it.
Lorraine lived her life with purpose. She made every day count, and never expected anything from others. She always remembered everyone on holidays and birthdays. Lorraine loved to give people “a little something” for going to the trouble of helping her.
Lorraine was the last of her generation. She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers and sisters, husband Dana, and her son Michael. She will be remembered lovingly by her niece Paula Kennedy of Falmouth. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on October 4th, 2014 at 10 am.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at Portland Center for Assisted Living for their extraordinary care of Lorraine. For those wishing to make a contribution in her memory, please consider donating to the Portland Center for Assisted Living Resident Council, 68 Devonshire St, Portland Maine 04103.
