

PORTLAND - Margaret Victoria Haugaard of Portland, Maine passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, surrounded by her family and friends at the comfort of her home. Margaret was born in Portland on February 14, 1922, the daughter of Gregory and Catherine (Zuin) Adams.
Margaret graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1939. Following her graduation she worked at several local shops in Portland. She married her sweetheart Charles V. Haugaard and they made their home in Portland also caring for Margaret's father Gregory. In 1952 she started working for Union Mutual, presently UNUM Group. She worked there for the next 31 years, till her retirement in August 1983. Margaret enjoyed her work, serving her clients and making friends along the way.
Margaret and Charlie celebrated 54 years of marriage together. They spent their time, together and with friends, playing golf, cards, reading, gardening, cooking and working in different projects around the house. After her retirement they enjoyed their travels in many countries around the World building more friendships and making memories. She loved watching baseball and was a loyal fan of Boston Red Sox. One of Margaret's highlights of her life is when her great-nephew Louie and his wife immigrated from Albania, her fatherland. She opened her home for them and loved watching their family grow. She enjoyed having their girls in her life, reading books, playing games and having fun with the family around her. Margaret was involved with UNUM retiree group attending monthly luncheons and organizing Christmas charity projects for local organizations, like Baron Center, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Club etc.
In addition to her husband Charlie, Margaret was predeceased by her sister Eleanore Foye and her husband Raymond of Concord MA. She is survived by her closest family: great-nephew Ilia (Louie) Adham and his wife Pandika Pleqi of Portland, their daughters Margaret and Emily and Louie's mother Valentina; her nephew Peter Foye and wife Marsha of Maynard, MA and their three daughters.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Hospice of Southern Maine for their outstanding professional care for Margaret and exceptional help to the family, which made possible caring for Margaret at her home being able to fulfill her wishes.

Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday May 15, 2016 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday May 16, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church 673 Stevens Avenue Portland, Maine.
