PORTLAND & FORT KENT – Marie Ann Dubois died December 12, 2022, in Benedicta, Maine at the age of 59. Her death was the result of a tragic car accident that took her life too soon. She was born in Fort Kent, Maine to Reynold and Rita (Grenier) Dubois on January 31, 1963.
Marie grew up in a tight-knit, small community supported by loving parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and many cousins. Friends and family were very important to her.
Marie worked as a hairdresser and a bus driver while supporting her children. During those years she returned to school and proudly earned her nursing degree at UMPI when she was 45. She became a dedicated, caring, and accomplished nurse.
At the time of her death, she was working for Maine Health in Portland.
We can use so many words to describe Marie’s energy and spirit. She was fearless, spunky, a little bit wild, and a loving jokester who never passed up an opportunity to make people laugh. She was an accomplished gardener. In fact, anything in the great outdoors moved her.
When Marie met Alan, her world changed. It was obvious to everyone that they were meant for each other. Marie and Alan Kuniholm married on July 5, 2014. They had many adventures camping, hiking, and traveling. Together, they bought a large wooded lot in Bethel and were planning their dream retirement home.
Marie is survived by her son Ryan Orton who lives in White Deer, PA and a daughter, Nina who lives in Sabattus with her husband, Alan Hall and daughter, Rita. Eight-year-old Rita was the light of Marie’s life.
Marie’s family includes her sister Lisa Colburn and husband, Steven Colburn of Orono; brother Reynold Dubois, Jr. and his wife Annmarie of Bangor; sister Nina Dubois and husband, Don Scipione of Cumberland; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Alan’s family includes sister Barbara Bellar and husband Don Bellar of Baldwinville, MA; sister Beverly Abelow and husband Steve Pratt of Warwick, RI; brother James Kuniholm and wife Marie Kuniholm of Athol, MA; and brother Erik Kuniholm and wife Ruth Kuniholm of Grafton, MA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Marie also leaves behind life-long friends Lynne Picard (Thibodeau) and Denise Lamore (Kaleta). Her dog, Serge, and cat, Butters, will surely miss her love.
Marie made the generous decision to donate her organs to help others – a final act consistent with her values.
Friends and family are invited to join a service to celebrate Marie’s life at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00PM. (207) 775-3763
