Westbrook, ME- Marie Rozzi Plourde, 97 died peacefully on January 15, 2026. She was born on December 7, 1928 to Dominic and Santa (DeRisi) Rozzi at their home in Portland, Maine. She was the third of seven children. Her older brothers, Freddie and Pasquale were already on the scene and saw her as their little sister throughout their lives. Their dancing to the Big Band music at the Pier at Old Orchard Beach was legendary. Even as a little girl, Marie was a help to her mother with her three raucous younger brothers (Chick, Larry and Bobby) and her sweet little sister (Carolyn). Her deep love for her siblings lasted her entire life. Marie graduated from Portland High School in 1946 where she and her best friend Lucy were majorettes and where Marie was recognized as Best Dancer – credit to all the “practice” at Old Orchard with her brothers. During High School, Marie was a “sales girl” at W.T. Grant, a perfect job for Marie, who was always very stylish.
Marie married Philip J. Plourde, Jr. in 1949. They lived in Westbrook and Marie stayed home with their four children, Sandy, Steve, Kip and Bobby. Once they were all in school, Marie went to work at Minott’s Flowers. While her job was bookkeeping, she was often working with customers in the store and arranging for deliveries – even enlisting her children to help. After 30 years at Minott’s, Marie made a career change – bringing her skills, sunny personality and wit to the Cumberland County Courthouse. She worked there for 14 years and was recognized for her attentiveness, professionalism, and of course, her style and wit. Marie retired in 2006 at the age of 78, moving to a condominium in Portland’s North Deering neighborhood where she lived until she moved to Stroudwater Lodge in 2017.
Throughout her life, Marie was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Portland where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality. Marie loved to travel and enjoyed road trips to visit family as well as three trips to Italy with her siblings to see the sights and visit their family’s origins. Closer to home, Marie enjoyed annual family reunions (established in 1979 and known in the family as the “Dom-Law picnic”). Marie LOVED the picnics where she always brought her own brand of light and humor and basked in the company of siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and her own four children, their nine children and eventually, eleven great grandchildren.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, beloved aunts and uncles, her brothers, Freddie, Pasquale, Chick and Bobby, her son Philip (Kip), and too many beloved family members to list. We imagine her having a beautiful “picnic”, spending some time on heaven’s dance floor and watching over those of us still here.
Marie is survived by her children, Sandra Webb and her husband Robert, Stephen Plourde and his wife Sally, Robert Plourde and his wife Lynn, daughter-in-law Julie Plourde, brother Lorenzo and sister Carolyn, sisters in-law, Niana and Jeannine, cousins Lucille Chiasson and Margaret Mary McArdle, 9 grandchildren, Derek Webb (Angel), Matthew Webb
(Michele), Jessica Moon (Matt), Nicole Connolly (Pat), Kristina Roman(John Michael), Benjamin, Nicholas, Lucas and Kayla and 11 great-grandchildren, Aksel, Silas, Nico, Amelia, Jonah, Tatum, Oscar, Eva, Theodore, Isabella and Jaxson and many nieces and nephews.
Wherever Marie was, there was laughter. She was always beautiful, stylish, had a radiant smile, a twinkle in her eye, a quick wit and an extra helping of sarcasm. Throughout her long life, she demonstrated an incredible work ethic and determination and most importantly, so much love for her family. Her children have no words to express their appreciation for the care she received during her nine years at Stroudwater Lodge and Avita of Stroudwater. Their responsiveness to her needs and the care they demonstrated was remarkable. Marie had her favorites too (you know who you are). No matter what she faced, she always maintained her grace and humor and was perpetually one of everyone’s favorite people.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on February 9, 2026, at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 10 am on July 17, 2026, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal St., Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
