CAPE ELIZABETH - Marjorie Kirkpatrick Sargent, 69, passed away March 10, 2018.

She was born in Portland, Oct. 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Donald and Alice Shaw Kirkpatrick. She attended Waynflete School, graduating in 1967; and Wheaton College, graduating in 1971.

Marjorie worked as a legal secretary for Pierce Atwood and most recently for Bernstein Shur.

She enjoyed visiting with her sons and their families, especially her four beautiful grandchildren whom she cherished. Marjorie absolutely loved the summer, whether time spent gardening, at the beach or pool, eating out, or just visiting with friends sharing stories over a bottle of wine.

Marjorie was a kind and generous person who touched many hearts. She was taken from us far too soon.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leighton B. Sargent Jr.

Marjorie is survived by her two sons, John Greenwood of Seattle, Wash., (his son, Christian); and David Greenwood of Annapolis, Md., (wife, Dr. Jennifer Greenwood; and children, Emma, Allison and Jackson); brother, Brad Kirkpatrick, of South Portland (wife, Barbara); and life partner, David Freeman.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at State Street Church UCC, 159 State St., Portland. The Rev. Jeanette Good will officiate. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home. For further information and to sign Marjorie's guest book, please visit: www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.

My condolences to all Marjorie’s family. It is obvious from the wonderful video how much she was loved by you all and how devoted she was to you. My memories of Marjorie are limited to my two years at Waynflete and, as a boarder, even more restricted. Nevertheless, I remember Marjorie as such a kind, caring and gentle soul. Her passing is a shock to me, so I cannot begin to imagine how hard this is for all of you. Certainly her departure was way too early. I will keep you all in my prayers and hope that your faith will bring some comfort. You certainly have wonderful memories together to keep her alive in your hearts and among your family. It gladdens me to have been able to share our 50th reunion last May, a photo of which I share. God bless and keep you.

I graduated in 1967 from Waynflete with your mother. I was able to spend quite a bit of time with her during our 45th anniversary at Waynflete. Your Mom always made me smile - just the sight of her made me smile! During our Waynflete days, she always was happy, smiling, being nice to everyone.
Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I am very sorry for your loss.
